Saturday 28th October 2023, Six Places, £150pp

Join me and Demiray Oral for a full one day workshop in some of the finest woodland’s the UK has to offer. The Peak District is a wonderful location for landscape photography and it really comes into it’s own in the Autumn when the colours turn. We will meet during blue hour where there’s a great chance of capturing any early morning atmosphere and will spend the morning exploring both Padley Gorge and Bole Hill before braking for lunch at a quaint Peak DIstrict Cafe. After lunch we will move onto a little known woodland in the Goyt Valley which provides great photographic opportunities even in the most hostile of conditions. If the opportunity presents itself we will take a walk up to Shining Tor which is a great sunset location, providing views over the western Peak’s, Cheshire and all of the way out to Snowdonia on a clear day.

The workshop is aimed very much at the budding woodland photographer, those who would just like a location guide or the beginner looking to learn the basics. We know these locations intimately and will spend time with each of you individually throughout the day to ensure you’re getting the knowledge and guidance you require. Woodland Photography is widely regarded as a challenging genre but with many proven compositions to visit throughout the day we’re sure you will go away with an understanding and the confidence to make images for yourself that you’ll be pleased to share and display. The day wont be limited to just shooting known compositions, you will have plenty of time to explore and find your own images. Creativity will always be encouraged and you will have us on hand to provide guidance and to answer any questions you may have.

We will discuss the following compositional theories throughout the day;

  • The use of light

  • Balance

  • Separation

  • Framing

  • Colour

  • The many variation’s of subject

  • Depth

  • Texture

  • Interaction

  • Emotion, connection, history and how this can affect compositional choice and the stories we wish to tell.

  • Crop Ratio’s

We will also cover the following technical aspects;

  • The exposure triangle

  • Where to focus

  • The use of the histogram

We hope you can join us for what will be a great day’s photography in one of Britain’s finest National Park’s.

Thanks

Marc and Dem.
